Happy Concrete

By 03-10-2017

‘As a designer, you have the opportunity to make something ‘unusual’ out of something ordinary. The purpose of my designs is often to stimulate the curiosity of the spectator by using a well-known material in a surprising way. In addition, uncovering new possibilities of materials and techniques to come to new applications is a recurring theme in my work.’

Happy Concrete 1
‘This research intended to show new esthetic possibilies of one of the most widely used materials: concrete. Concrete can take any shape or form, so why not aim for a softer look and feel? By experimenting with various pigments and pouring techniques I tried to give this coarse and grey building material a colourful makeover, resulting in a series of small objects.’

Happy Concrete 2
‘With Happy Concrete 2 the search for a softer and more gentle use of concrete continued. I questioned how his tender concrete could be applied within the field of architecture. For applying a tactile skin to a building or for use as an outdoor carpet, these objects can be used in a modular fashion.’
