HAY and Royal Ahrend relaunch iconic Revolt chair

By 28-11-2020

67 years after its launch in 1953, the iconic Revolt chair by designer Friso Kramer is being re-released. This is the result of the inspiring collaboration between Danish design brand HAY and Royal Ahrend under the name ‘HAY for Ahrend’.

Revolutionary design
The Revolt chair embodies Friso Kramer’s signature minimalist style and is one of his best-known designs. It was a revolutionary design in 1953 with a bent sheet metal frame instead of the traditional tubular frame. This allowed the chair to be produced in large quantities in a cost-efficient manner and thus became accessible to a wider audience.

Sustainable character
During the production of the frame, the steel plate is used optimally, resulting in a minimum of waste. The frame is very strong and has a long lifespan. The seat and backrest are made from a mix of recycled and new ABS plastic. As a result, the materialization of the chair is in line with today’s sustainability requirements.

Original colours
The seat and backrest of the Revolt are available in nine colours that are based on the original hues, but have been slightly modified in tone or saturation for a more contemporary touch. The frame can be powder coated in three matching colours. In total, 27 different colour combinations can be put together. This way the chair fits into any environment.

Ergonomic comfort
The Revolt is more than a sustainable design icon. The ergonomic design moves with the user and offers active support and comfort during eating, working and meeting. This dynamic chair with flexible backrest is therefore suitable for use at home and at the office, as well as in public areas.
