Hide Your Self

By 28-03-2018

This satirical poster by The Stone Twins was inspired by 20th century government information campaigns that were intended to help the public protect themselves in the event of a nuclear attack.

According to The Stone Twins, the poster is a response to the real possibility of a nuclear armageddon. They point to the recent announcement by Putin of a new generation of Russian intercontinental ballistic missiles, the perilous state of the Middle East and – despite the stunning development of talks – the sabre-rattling rhetoric and bad hair of American President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

The Hide Your Self poster is a parody of public information campaigns published during the Cold War, which encouraged citizens to build fallout shelters and stock emergency supplies. The black humour behind the illustrations and the witty copywriting combine to make a poster that is both gloomy and hilarious in equal measure. Every home or office should have one. Just in case.
