Hinosx diary

By 16-12-2017

Hinosx diary, designed and published since 1982 by graphic designer Wout Jonker. Available at book and museum stores and via www.hinosx.nl.

Wout Jonker on (his) diaries
“…At first I used an existing typeface in two contrasting weights. Later on I did not make use of an existing letter but I made drawings of full-sized double pages with a thin pen. These drawings served as a basis for the proportions and contrasts. From that I stylized the currently used letter which is called ‘Nontype’, indicating that it is a typeface with little character.”

“…Electronic diaries have many benefits, but there is one big disadvantage: ultimately, the device ends up in the bin and you lose everything you have ever noted down. Paper diaries, however, can always be consulted. What’s nice as well is that, next to reading the contents of appointments and notes, you can also look at how things have been written: a quick scrawl or composed handwriting are more than just different ways of expressing the same message.”
