By 23-11-2020

New media art, interactive projects, Virtual Reality, installations and digital performances are once again the ingredients of IDFA DocLab, the new media program of IDFA, the international documentary festival in Amsterdam this year. From 20 to 29 November do {not} touch will take place with more than 35 interactive and immersive documentary projects.

do {not} touch, –the {accolades} are in the internet language symbol for a hug– finds place on location in Amsterdam and on various online platforms. For example, 9 VR projects can be experienced physically in the Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam, including Book of Distance by Randall Okita and Ferenj: A Graphic Memoir in VR by Ainslee Robson, as well as a number of social VR experiments such as Ali Eslami’s Eclipse. In ARTIS-Planetarium you can see Tamara Shogaolu’s Echoes of Silence (winner of the FilmFund DocLab interactive Grant) and David OReilly’s Corona Voicemails, and in a gym Oxygen Debt, a philosophical spider class by Bart van de Woestijne. There are also three free live events, including Symbiosis by design collective Polymorf.

This year, the social exhibition do {not} PLAY takes place in a promising new experimental digital platform. In various rooms you can experience 24h Sunset / Sunrise v2 by Dries Depoorter and Shishani Vranckx (also a FilmFund Interactive grant winner), Orbit Diapason by Tabita Rezaire and the last days of the virtual influencer Sylvia, a work on ageism, mortality, and simulated authenticity by artist Ziv Schneider. Via idfa.nl/donotplay (only via Chrome and desk or laptop), the visitor enters the digital exhibition, including the festival atmosphere, social interaction with other visitors, happy hours, karaoke and the chance to end up in the Distance Disco by Klasien van de Zandschulp, Mark Meeuwenoord en Arjen Scherpenisse.
