The Industrial Essence of Kranen/Gille

By 16-03-2017

In 2007 Jos Kranen and Johannes Gille designed A Forest Chair. That same year this chair was shown at design fairs in Milan and Miami. A flying start for the design duo Kranen/Gille, who in the subsequent years, from their studio in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, keep working successfully on a unique body of work.

Ten years
On the occasion of the 10th anniversary, the Noordbrabants Museum presents from 11 February up to and including 14 May 2017 the duo’s first museum solo exhibition which is bearing the name of The Industrial Essence of Kranen/Gille.

Industrial Essence
Other sources of inspiration for Kranen/Gille are the shapes of industrial structures such as oil rigs, shipyards, and submarines. Projects of enormous size which were never designed to be beautiful. In their designs, Kranen/Gille transform the shapes and materials of these structures into products that are elaborated in great detail and often imbued with a touch of nature.

New work
Kranen/Gille themselves are responsible for the exhibition design. A mix of prototypes, free work and products for design labels illustrate the highlights and developments of the past decade. A total of 40 designs including a new, not previously shown work, viz. a chandelier in the series Plant.
