‘De Interieur Club drinks’ at Masterly

By 20-04-2023

ONE WEEK ABOUT Milan Design Week 2023
Day 3 – report by David Heldt

It became a pizza capricciosa yesterday afternoon, freely translated: a whimsical pizza; a little bit of everything, and a little bit different at each pizzeria. And I was reminded of the party I was heading to, ‘De Interieur Club drinks’ at Masterly. Actually, the fuorisalone is a big interior club. With sub-clubhouses, sometimes pulling together around themes, and sometimes around nationalities.

Quality and taste can vary quite a bit on the fuorisalone. As erratic as the pizza capricciosa actually; but delicious.

Tonight we are having drinks with Dutch people in the heart of Milan, in the shadow of one of the most beautiful cathedrals in the world, the Duomo. Initiators Mark Timo and Gertrude van den Brink are doing an international ‘De Interieur Club drinks’ for the first time, but they are doing it routinely and yes, it was busy. This is going to come back. I hope they will find a beverage sponsor.

The group presentation Masterly consists of a mix of designers and brands. Samira Boon is presenting for the first time in Milan, but her work was already on display at the NASA space station where a small piece of her work traveled. Her spatial textiles, folded giving them a third dimension, no doubt come into their own beautifully while floating. They also hang beautifully under the Duomo.

The lighting/mirrors of the new brand Sodalime make us humans like space aliens. High quality technique to give lenses color coatings have been used to color glass so that in the mirror selected colors do not reflect. It gives a fascinating effect.

More down to earth is the, also new brand, ØDE. Originated from a carpentry factory who wanted to make something special, wooden tables assembled without glue or screws. Nice detail are the crosses that hold it all together.
