ONE WEEK ABOUT Textile Design by curator Eugène van Veldhoven
Joana Schneider (1990, Germany) is currently studying Textile Design in the Textile and Fashion department at the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague.
Schneider, who makes sculptural handwoven carpets and sound installations, addresses conflicts between power relationships and society, individual desire and social structure. Her storytelling tapestries are based on political imbalances that she illustrates by using a broad range of font and color. She comes from a background of jewelry making, which allows her also to work in precision. Yet Joana enjoy mostly to work on big scale and create installations and interiors that are beyond human size.
Will she be a textile designer? Or an artist?? Hopefully she will be both..! Schneider plans to graduate in the summer of 2018. Oh yes, and she is cofounder and member of the band DC Schneider.
