Jubilee edition of Stichting De Roos

By 22-03-2023

To mark the 75th anniversary of De Roos Foundation, they published an anniversary book showcasing all their publications. De Roos has been publishing illustrated literary works for lovers of special books since 1946. Cover and inner work, and many details of typography and illustrations, are shown of all 194 books.

The form chosen for this edition is the flattorello, a leporello in book form. The length of this flattorello is 7 metres and 31 centimetres. Starting on one side, the years increase from 1946. On the other side, the flattorello starts with the most recent issues of De Roos Foundation and counts down the years. It gives a picture of the times in book design.

The introduction was written by art historian Rickey Tax, as head of collections at the House of Books – formerly Museum Meermanno – a great connoisseur of the special book. The design was in the hands of Karen Polder. She was also responsible for the photography of all the books.

Zwaan Lenoir printed the book, J. Voetelink & Zn Grafische Afwerking, the only bindery in the Netherlands using the flattorello technique, took care of the finishing.
