Lecture Chantal Hendriksen
Every two months, De Monsterkamer organizes on Thursdays an Inloop + speciale gast (Open Doors + Special Guest). This time Chantal Hendriksen (1978) was invited, the founder of studio Hendriksen, an Amsterdam-based graphic design studio.
The projects of studio Hendriksen evolve from a deep affinity with contemporary art, which manifests itself in collaborations with art institutes, museums, galleries, individual artists and photographers as well as a wide range of self-initiated projects. The studio always seeks to challenge the profession’s autonomy in its collaboration with a range of other disciplines. All its projects are characterized by a conceptual and experimental approach.
During her lecture at De Monsterkamer, Chantal Hendriksen will talk about inspirations, reference points, the different roles a designer can assume and the ways in which this influences the design process. Plus, she’ll present exclusive sneak preview prints for a – still to be launched – series of scarves (12!) for AKXVIII.
Chantal Hendriksen studied graphic design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in Amsterdam and received her MA degree at Werkplaats Typografie in Arnhem. The studio is a continuation of her former successful collaboration with Marijke Cobbenhagen.
Hendriksen is the initiator and co-founder of art magazine ‘You Are Cordially Invited’. Alongside her design practice, Chantal is also active as a teacher at the Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten in The Hague (Royal Academy of Art in The Hague) and she used to teach at the HKU Hogeschool voor de Kunsten in Utrecht (HKU University of the Arts in Utrecht) and the California College of Arts in San Francisco. The combination of different activities is an essential part of Studio Hendriksen’s design practice.
Recent projects include designs for De Hallen Haarlem, Frans Hals Museum, Oude Kerk, Amsterdam Art /Amsterdam Art Weekend, Dürst Britt & Mayhew gallery and AKXVIII.
