Lecture Roger Willems

By 31-10-2016

Every month on Thursday De Monsterkamer organises a Open doors + special guest. This time, we invited Roger Willems.

Roger Willems (1969) is founding director of Roma Publications, which he started in 1998 together with artists Mark Manders and Marc Nagtzaam. Since then, Roma Publications has been expanding in an informal way as an international platform for production and distribution of art publications, made in close collaboration with a growing number of artists, designers, curators, writers and poets, creating a series of 290 publications by the end of 2016.

Besides designing a majority of the books he publishes, Willems also curates book-related exhibitions.

Roger Willems studied graphic design at St Joost in Breda and was assistant of Karel Martens from 1993 till 1995. He post-graduated in 1999 at the Design Department of the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam. He designed mostly books and other printed matter for publishing houses and cultural institutions. He collaborates with artists such as Marlene Dumas, Mark Manders, Batia Suter, Kees Goudzwaard, Marc Nagtzaam, Dana Lixenberg and Geert Goiris, and institutions such as the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Mondriaan Fund, Institute of Contemporary Arts London and S.M.A.K., Ghent.
