Let’s Get Physical
The exhibition ‘Let’s Get Physical’ was a sculpture route throughout the area of West-Rotterdam by AVL Mundo, a non-profit foundation by Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout. The route was set up as a getaway for the inhabitants of Rotterdam who couldn’t go on vacation due to the pandemic, as well as a celebration of the refound freedom of being outside and of physical activity.
Studio de Ronners was commissioned to develop the campaign. The concept was in the name: ‘Let’s Get Physical’. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the longing for physical contact increases, whilst the 1.5-metre society asks to maintain distance. The design played with physical proximity, by placing the images of three iconic pieces by Joep Van Lieshout as big as possible, using tight margins and squished typography, in combination with fleshy colours. In this way, the design creates rapprochement. Almost to close for comfort.
