Let’s Mix Those Dots

By 10-04-2019

ONE WEEK ABOUT Dutch Designers in Milan by Connecting the Dots

‘Outspoken’, that was yesterday’s dress code for the Mixing the Dots Opening Cocktail, the official opening of the exhibition Design Language at Via Tortona 35. And, believe me, we sure saw some outspoken characters!

The party started at aperitivo time and since the first hour the space kept on filling with people of the best varieties. I was the hostess checking the guest list at the entrance, welcoming designers, students, the press and, believe it or not, a real princess!

I have been working for Design Language for three years now, and you would think at this point nothing could surprise me anymore. Well, you would be wrong. Every year I can sense a different atmosphere while recognising many of the same people. Yesterday night I could hear the laughter coming from inside, maybe mostly thanks to our sponsor Heineken, but I’m sure also thanks to the amazing people that coloured the event.

The lights were dimmed but the smiles were bright, and when I let the Dutch princess Margarita de Bourbon de Parme in, I knew it was destined to be a very interesting evening.

What strikes me is how mixed this party was. From students from every university of Milan to designers from all over the world, including, of course, the Netherlands, but also Portugal, Sweden, USA and even Japan. The exposition itself, from the lightest wooden chair in the world by Fuschini to the slimmest 3D printed lamp by Morgan Ruben, sure was the perfect background for this party. And each and everyone of the designers exhibiting in Design Language, from Maarten Olden to Lanificio Leo, from K-INO INOMATA ART to Jacqueline Harberink, were ‘mixing the dots’ with us all.
