Limited VARMBLIXT collection

By 18-01-2023

IKEA and Dutch designer Sabine Marcelis bring light to life naturally

IKEA and Rotterdam-based designer Sabine Marcelis have joined forces to present the new limited VARMBLIXT collection. This collection explores the function of light in the home in unexpected ways in the form of shadow games and light reflections. Marcelis designed lighting as well as glassware and rugs for this collection. In doing so, the striking shapes and warm colours – VARMBLIXT means ‘warm lightning’ in Swedish – are characteristic. A preview of the collection was presented last summer during Milan Design Week. VARMBLIXT will be available from February. The lighting will be added to the IKEA range, the other products are limited.

Sculptural lighting
With VARMBLIXT, Marcelis shows in an innovative way how light affects the atmosphere and feeling in the home. The large pendant lamp with curved tubes of matt white glass demands attention in the room as a real eye-catcher. The orange donut-shaped lamp provides warm light and is elegant on the wall, as a table lamp or in an open cupboard. Bending away from the wall, the round metal wall lamp creates an interesting shadow effect on the wall. Hang the playful burgundy tubes on the wall for special mood lighting – the light seems to flow from the tubes onto the wall. For all the lamps in the collection, even when off, they are beautiful sculptural objects that add character to any room.

Pronounced design
The two rugs in the collection are inspired by sunset colours and made of 100 per cent hand-woven wool. The large rug subtly transitions from deep orange to amber, while the smaller rug has a beautiful transition from deep yellow to pale yellow. The designs give the impression of two rugs draped over each other, creating the illusion of depth. The minimalist side tables in dark red and mint green contrast nicely with the rugs, creating striking colour combinations.
