Looking back at Milan by Cor Unum

By 19-04-2016

Under the heading ‘Changing the Skin’, ceramics producer Cor Unum from ‘s-Hertogenbosch presented work by 11 Dutch designers during the Salone del Mobile in Milan. This year, Cor Unum chose to settle in Isola, a lively and, in terms of the Salone, up to now a rather unexplored neighborhood.

Cor Unum presented himself together with Dutch Invertuals and the artist duo Kiki van Eijk and Joost van Bleiswijk under the name ‘Dutch Design Isola’. A highly successful decision, as it appeared at the end of the Salone Week. Charlotte Landsheer (creative director at Cor Unum): “It’s unbelievable how many international visitors we have received here and how this has resulted in valuable contacts and commissions. Design lovers, design sellers and the professionals, they all knew where to find us and we got rave reviews from the press. The designers for whom we work – such as Maarten Baas, Kranen/Gille, Roderick Vos, rENs, Jeroen Wand, Floris Hovers, David Derksen, Floris Wubben, Alex de Witte, Mae Engelgeer – received the appreciation they deserve.”

The theme ‘Changing the Skin of Ceramics’ offered rENs (Renee Mennen and Stefanie Keijsteren) the inspiration to take their research on the influence of color to a next level. They examined the capillary action of clay and the chemical link that could be made between paint and glaze. Firstly, the result provides an endless number of new possibilities in the ceramic process and secondly, the plates they presented earned them a lot of admiration and attention.
