Marcel Wanders (1963), designer
Marcel Wanders graduated with honours from the Academy of Fine Arts in Arnhem (later ArtEZ) in 1988. After a short venture with design agency WAAC’s in Rotterdam, he established his own agency for product design and interior design in Amsterdam in 1995. He employs 50 designers who serve an international clientele. In 2001, he was one of the co-founders of the successful design label Moooi, where he is the art director. He gained worldwide attention in 1996 with his Knotted Chair, which combines high-tech materials with low-tech production techniques. With his imaginative designs, he has since gained a reputation as a world-class design celebrity. His solo exhibition Daydreams was on display at the Philadelphia Museum of Art in 2009. The Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam made a retrospective exhibition of his oeuvre in 2014.
