Marjolijn Fossen (1961, the Netherlands) studied Fashion Design at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. From knitwear designer for fashion industry, she gradually developed into an all-round textile and pattern designer. The techniques she uses range from machine knitting, felting, shibori, spinning and weaving to digital pattern design. Her style is best described as ‘Northern European’; creating sophisticated patterns that may look simple at first glance, but in fact are far from that. Fossen’s designs vary from (hyper) graphic patterns to irregular structures and spheres.
Her clients are mostly high end interior textile editors in Europe, the USA and Japan.
In 2011/2012 she developed a range of knitted interior products in collaboration with the Dutch Textielmuseum. Last year one of her designs for Designtex was acquired by the Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum in New York. Besides industrial design, Marjolijn Fossen also makes artworks in felt.
