Mondriaan to dutch design – Cor Unum

By 16-05-2017

Piet Mondriaan, nowadays a worldwide renowned and admired artist, spent his youth (1880 to 1892) in his parental home on Zonnebrink 4 in Winterswijk. This former home of the Mondriaan family in Winterswijk provided the basis for today’s museum and forms one wing of the museum’s building.

In honor of the 100th anniversary of De Stijl, Villa Mondriaan shows Dutch Design throughout the year in the Arco Pavilion. After the successful exhibition of design studio Raw Color follows a new exhibition of work by ceramics atelier Cor Unum: this exhibition, which is called Contemporary Ceramics, opens on Wednesday May 10.

In this exhibition Cor Unum presents ceramics with a wink. The ‘Pretty Happy Crockery’ by Maarten Baas converts a plate into a funny face and for his ‘MaMa Vase’ Roderick Vos draws inspiration from the colors of a cream slide. The tension between art and innovative ceramic designs is explored with humor.

The production house Cor Unum produces high quality ceramics. Craft and innovation are central to Cor Unum. Cor Unum works in co-creation with designers on new products within a smooth running organization where volunteers, professionals, people with poor employment prospects, students, and designers form a professional collective. The people within the company share one common ideal: everyone deserves a place, everyone has a talent and everyone can help make the world a bit more beautiful.
