Mouth Masks

By 16-05-2020

Want to cheer up the people around you? Do you want to be a polar bear, a pig or a tiger? Instead of the plain white mouth mask, designer Samira Boon released a happier version while living in Japan in 2004.
In Japan mouth masks are seen on the streets every day. “Everyone wears them to protect themselves from another person’s bacteria, but also to protect others when they are sick,” explains Samira. “In Asian countries people protect each other out of politeness.”

Samira Boon decided to make a cheerful and funny version that still serves its purpose. These facemasks are now gaining new relevance in response to the coronavirus. “Also to cheer people up.”

This mask no longer conceals but transforms the part of the face it is hiding, integrating face and mask. Currently there are fifteen versions with animals, human features or zippers. The masks are washable.
