New Optimist is a clothing brand where clothes are made in an open, accessible social studio. And while every garment starts with a design, New Optimist starts with the maker. New Optimist aims to help vulnerable people find work by designing, producing and selling clothing in Amsterdam. We want to start a wider movement that shows that circular clothing, made fairly and transparently, should be the new standard and not the exception. New Optimist is not a typical charity brand where the end product is an accidental by-product of social entrepreneurship, but New Optimist produces sustainable, affordable clothing of high level and quality. New Optimist is about opportunities, new solutions in fashion and the optimism that things can be different.
Everyday green garments
For our first batches, we had fabrics produced from TEXLOOP, a yarn from our partner Circular Systems. Circular Systems developed a new technology for their TEXLOOP yarns, which recycles cotton from “pre- and post-consumer waste. The recycled yarns are then blended with new organic cotton to achieve premium quality. Our garments are 100% mono material: Cotton. No concessions. All labels are organic cotton, and even the sewing thread. An option not often seen.
