Benthem Crouwel Architects designed seven well-organized, spacious and light stations (two above, five below ground level) for the Noord/Zuidlijn (North/South line), the new Amsterdam metro line. Subdued and functional, each with its own recognizable look, the stations are clearly related to each other by the use of the same form language and design principles.
The North/South Line transports and connects the city: residents from Amsterdam, commuters and tourists travel from station North to station South in just 15 minutes and get in and out at seven well-organized, functional, bright stations. The challenge was to design underground spaces where travelers feel safe and comfortable, stations that optimally serve every traveler’s goal: to get from A to B as quickly and efficiently as possible.
The stations each have their own appearance, but through the consistent use of the same materials and colors, they have a strong connection with each other and are members of the same family.
