ONE WEEK ABOUT Textile Design

By 17-07-2017

Introducing curator Eugène van Veldhoven – Since 1993 Dutch designer Eugène van Veldhoven (1964 the Netherlands, BA Fashion design at Willem de Kooning) is active in interior textiles and wallpaper industry. Van Veldhoven works on his portfolio all year round. He shows his industrial designs during fairs such as Heimtextil in Frankfurt and Maison & Objet in Paris, and he travels through Europe and the USA.
Van Veldhoven is known for his use of old and new technology, such as needle felting, ultrasonic quilting, laser cutting and engraving, silicone coatings, flock printing, embossing and transfer printing. Over the years he has built a network of textile technicians in industry that gives him access to production facilities, because for every technique he uses in his studio, an industrial equivalent must be available in production.
Interestingly enough, allthough print designer, more and more weaving mills use his patterns for jacquard weaving.

Clients have been among others: Philips, Maharam, Christian Lacroix, Calvin Klein Home, Ikea, Mitsubishi, Kinnasand, Jack Larsen, De Ploeg, Elitis, Louis De Poortere, Sahco Hesslein and Ulf Moritz.

Work of Van Veldhoven is part of the collection of Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Gemeentemuseum Den Haag, the Dutch Textielmuseum and the Museum of Rhode Island School of Design (RISD).

In the coming week I will highlight textile designers that work in industry and, allthough often invisible for the main audience, are very influential and highly skilled.
