Bas Timmer closes Paris Fashion Week with pop-up event

As part of the official event calendar, Dutch fashion designer Bas Timmer, creator of the iconic Sheltersuit, closes Paris Fashion Week with his unique and inclusive People Helping People pop-up event, serving hundreds of unhoused guests in partnership with Utopia Paris, Sheltersuit Foundation, and many others on Tuesday, March 7.

Amid the Ukraine/Russia war, a devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria, and tens of millions of people worldwide facing homelessness, streetwear designer Bas Timmer decided to use his official spot at Paris Fashion week not to present a new collection, but to organize a special event with the aim of creating more awareness in how the fashion industry can support those in need. The event is an example of how innovative upcycled products can be used to protect and serve people suffering on the streets, and is a demonstration of people helping people in action.

Timmer: “We know fashion can be a powerful tool for social justice. If we all commit to using a portion of our creativity, knowledge, and resources to design for humanity, we can have a tremendous impact on the world. We are inviting friends, fellow activists, and leaders from the fashion industry to join us on March 7, in meeting and connecting with our unhoused guests and helping to hand out hundreds of meals and protective products.”

The Dutch designer, who has spent the past decade developing a design code around simplicity and durability, is currently collaborating on collections that can directly help and benefit people who are living in difficult circumstances. Later this year he will be back on the runway.
