ONE WEEK ABOUT Rethinking Plastic by curator Leonne Cuppen

Biophilic design uses natural elements in architectural and interior design to reconnect with nature, often unconsciously. Based on this idea, Laura van de Wijdeven develops new materials. Using fermentation techniques, in which she combined garden waste with bacteria, she created a bio-film, also called bacterial cellulose. Similar to vegetable cellulose, but with different structures and properties. She used the remaining weeds as nutrient for the production of mycelium. In this way, completely biodegradable materials are created, without any waste, which are then used to make artificial plants.
