Please Take Off Your Shoes!

By 20-01-2020

A large carpet made of leftover pieces sourced from Dutch company Desso Tarkett became the cornerstone of Please Take Off Your Shoes!, the exhibition by Sander Wassink at the latest Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven.

Sander Wassink: “The last couple of years I have discovered drawing as a sort of liberating force. I had some issues with clients and projects and understood that making a drawing could be enough for me to be satisfied. If the project would be realized it would be just a bonus. This thought took away all the pressure. Taking the practical side out of the design-process gave me great freedom.”

“The exhibition, consisting of some existing and some new works, reflected this new-found freedom. Currently, I am implementing this approach in my interior design projects. I am happy that this way of working resonated with the audience of the Dutch Design Week. The exhibition was installed in what is normally my studio. I used carpets to slow people down in a place that is quite sacred to us. To create a setting for a long conversation or just an experience for people who are willing to make the effort.”
