The ongoing refugee crisis, climate issues, an endless formation, the surcharge affair, of course corona and recently the war in Ukraine: we are living in turbulent times. Editorial illustrators comment on the peculiarities of their time with their drawings. This tradition stretches back to the prelude to political discord. But even today, prints are just as important for newspapers, magazines and news websites. Illustrators continue to use images to put their finger on the sore spot.
That is why the Illustration Embassy is organising the exhibition ‘Politiek Getekend’ (Politically Signed) at the Westergas in Amsterdam. The exhibition celebrates the social eloquence of political cartoons and editorial illustrations, focusing on the nominees of the Inktspot Prize, the history of cartoons and the Risoprinter as part of an activist DIY movement.
Exhibition ‘Politiek Getekend’
