Pulp Paper & Pulp Soap

By 18-02-2021

Paper and soap made from Amsterdam trees

As part of the Offgrid project, (typo)graphic designers Novo Typo / Mark van Wageningen produced a set of paper and handsoap which is made of sawdust from Amsterdam trees.

Amsterdam Pulp Paper is made of genuine Amsterdam poplar trees. In the streets and parks of the city of Amsterdam there are approximately one million trees. Unfortunately, every year an average of 4% of these trees need to be cut down. The wood from these felled trees is used to produce, for example, new street furniture. The generated residual sawdust is turned into new pulp which is the source for Amsterdam Pulp Paper and Amsterdam Pulp Soap.

The Offgrid project is an ongoing project about establishing Novo Typo as a self-sufficient design office. ‘When you are able to produce your own letters and fonts, it seems only logical to produce your own paper and ink.’ Because the production can be a dirty job, and cleaning your hands is essential nowadays, Novo Typo also produced their own scrubsoap. All based on Amsterdam sources.

Amsterdam Pulp Paper and Amsterdam Pulp Soap is available for order via the webshop of Novo Typo: www.novotypo.nl/shop
