One Week About Typography by curator Henk Gianotten

Martin Majoor was trained as a graphic designer, worked afterwards as a font designer and produced the fonts FF Scala, FF Seria and FF Nexus and many others. He teaches typography, writes articles for trade journals and book contributions and gives international lectures on font design. Jos Buivenga used to be graphic designer and art director who made himself familiar with the art of font design and font production; he became very successful with, among other fonts, his Museo and Caluna fonts so that he could afford to busy himself exclusively with the font production in his own exljbris.com.

Both designers have since 2010 been working closely together on the Questa project. Buivenga made the first sketch designs for the font that later on served as a prototype for the Questa ‘superfamily’which has four form variants, i.e. the Questa Serif, Questa Sans, Slab and Grande. The last 3 are based on the basic structure of the Serif with, even in the Sans, real italics. The fonts have each 5 weights, small caps, multiple figure sets and an extremely large character set.
