Repetition Zine

By 10-07-2018

Originally from Mexico, Laura Aranda has a background in fine art and a passion for print media. She works under the name Studio Amargo and is located in Rotterdam.

Laura Aranda: “With my strong interest in printing techniques, I wanted to challenge myself to a different approach to my fascination for repetition and simplicity. For the creation of this zine I chose to use riso print. Riso printing is like screen printing, which I use a lot. It also makes use of layers of colour. This seemed like the right approach for this project. I had to keep in mind how colours may be used to affect each other, thinking about layers, the placement of each drawing, and how this affects the zine.”

“It brings together many themes that are important to me, such as creating shapes and patterns. I am also keen on making the complex look simple. I brought all of these ideas together in one place, one bundle of brand new drawings. In the zine, these drawings interact with each other, which is different from what I usually do. Normally I make single prints, but this zine you can grab and touch, to experience the drawings in another way. I wanted to create a feel of craftmanship when you hold the zine, so you can enjoy the uniqueness of little imperfections.”
