Rethinking Plastic Challenge – Shahar Livne
As part of the Rethinking Plastic programme, Yksi Expo – together with the Stokroos Foundation – has developed assignments for five young designers from the Yksi Expo Young Talent team. As an incentive to take them a step further in their development and career. Today we present Shahar Livne.
Shahar Livne’s video essay “Consume!” is an ode to Jørgen Leth video work “Andy Warhol Eating a Hamburger” (1982) referring to the idea that consumerism goes through all levels of society with no distinction.
The same goes for plastics in the last decades, we all consume them, and we all can not escape the possible effects they can have on our bodies. The designer in the video consumes honey, salt, sugar, and beer, products that have been found by scientists to contain microplastics, meditating on the questions: What is its possible effects on our body? And what responsibility do designers bear in their choice of materials? And more.
