Rijksmuseum, virtual tour of the Gallery of Honor

By 28-03-2020

Together with Q42 and Fabrique, the Rijksmuseum launches a new online tour of the Eregalerij (Gallery of Honor). Scrolling through the latest high resolution 360º images, visitors ‘walk’ along the Rijksmuseum’s masterpieces, including works such as De NachtwachtHet melkmeisje and Marten & Oopjen (The Night Watch, The Milkmaid and Marten & Oopjen). Eighteen works are accompanied by video stories which can be zoomed down to the smallest detail.

With Discover Rijksmuseum’s masterpieces, visitors at home get the feeling that they’re walking through the abandoned museum to discover the stories behind the paintings in peace.

Smart technology in the service of the perception
For the online multimedia tour, new 360 degree photos were taken in the Gallery of Honor. These are enriched with existing text and audio content plus clear navigation. Fabrique used new patterns to make navigation a lot easier than in standard 360 tours. The tour is also easily accessible on both desktop and mobile. Thanks to the use of Q42’s ultra-resolution storytelling tool Micrio, the development took less than six days. With this new technology, visitors can easily and smoothly view enormous images online. Combined with background information, voice-overs and music, a magical interactive perception is created, ideal for museums that want to offer visitors a rich experience at home.
