Roots cahier Milou Hermus

By 14-12-2018

Publishing House [Z]OO Productions presents the new Roots cahier about illustrator Milou Hermus, written by Carel Kuitenbrouwer, in Amsterdam.

As an illustrator Milou Hermus (1947) had no preference for a specific kind of client. As long as she had sufficient freedom, she could handle any commission and any subject; it was an honor to her to make every work special. ‘I just can’t work if I don’t do it with dedication; as soon as I notice that I do the job on autopilot, it’s wrong. I think that it’s also because I don’t like to be anonymous.’You could say that she has a very broad interest. You could also say that her interest is especially focused on the work itself, on telling a story in images.

She now works mainly autonomously, painted two series of life-size portraits of men & women. And she has every intention to keep on working.

Roots is a collaboration between [Z]OO producties and Wilco Art Books. The aim of the series is to generate attention for the roots of the Dutch graphic design culture. Roots is wholeheartedly supported by The Association of Dutch Designers (BNO), Pictoright and Wim Crouwel Instituut.
