Secret Garden

By 07-11-2017

Since May 2017 Scholten & Baijings, Studio for Design, is established in a former pumping station with a walled garden on the Ruysdaelkade 2-4 in Amsterdam. The building in the Amsterdam School style dates from 1925 and is located next to the Rijksmuseum.

On September 16, the first outdoor exhibition was opened under the title ‘Secret Garden’. Designers Carole Baijings and Stefan Scholten personally took the initiative to make the garden of their studio accessible to a larger audience for several months per year. From then on, Secret Garden is an annual outdoor exhibition with varying themes.

For the kick-off of the exhibition, Scholten & Baijings have chosen for a mix of well-known designers, artists and emerging talent. In the first exhibition, ‘design editions’ take center stage: objects, tables, chairs, jugs, stools, lighting and photography. Products that have not necessarily been designed for the outdoor space but can still be used outside. In the exhibition, these designs enter into a relationship with the garden, the architecture and the public through material, meaning, design or innovative manufacturing techniques.
