Slowing down is the art

By 24-01-2023

In the duo show ‘Analogue Thoughts’, the Bossche gallery Ruby Soho shows work made in a slow, analog and artisanal way. Larissa Schepers and Thijs Kelder both work with traditional, time-consuming techniques. Schepers uses textile techniques and Kelder stained glass.

Larissa and Thijs combine the craft they both learned from masters with modern themes. In Schepers’ case, this produces works that examine the communication of people in online games. She has a fascination with beads and uses various techniques such as weaving, knitting and embroidery to portray her message. Kelder, on the other hand, uses symbols, icons and emojis that seem to be taking over word communication these days take over. He translates this symbolism of youth and pop culture into his signature sleek line work.

Their works are produced slowly and by hand so the result makes you stop and think about the daily rat race. This reveals the influence and mindset of two young makers on the fast-paced consumer society. At the same time, Schepers and Kelder hold up a mirror to the viewer: are we really ready for a new future and what does it look like?
