Softly to Not

By 12-07-2017

The multimedia installation ‘Zachtjes om het Niet’ (Softly to Not) looks like a cross between a portable altar and an enlarged typesetter’s case. A combination of photos, movies, and painted images created by Miloushka Bokma. A work that invites you as a spectator to establish all kinds of links. A work offering space for association, reflection and contemplation.

Miloushka Bokma aims to tell a whole story in one single image: “I’m interested in the specific ways in which memories or experiences are reflected in someone’s face, glance or body posture. By staging my photos very precisely I investigate how these signals manifest themselves or whether they are suppressed. If in the photos the time stands still, I stretch it a little bit in my video works. I film photographically, with a static camera technique and little to no montage. The characters are located in public spaces and respond to each other’s magnified emotions. The short films are silent, to strengthen the sense of uneasiness. ”

Museum TOT Zover
The installation ‘Softly to Not’ is an addition to the permanent exhibition of Museum TOT Zover. The work is in any case on display until the end of 2017.
