Speelwerk

By 16-01-2021

Sanne van de Goor made ‘Speelwerk’ (Playwork) for Aldo van Eyck’s Burgerweeshuis (Secular Orphanage) in Amsterdam-Zuid. An interactive wall installation consisting of 1752 cubes of PET felt covered with wool felt. The cubes are rotating around an axis and this makes them change color. With van Eyck in mind, Speelwerk refers to the anchored game elements in the architecture of the former orphanage. The pattern is the building seen from above. Bouwfonds Project Development (Construction Fund Project Development) commissioned Sanne to improve the acoustics in the former party hall and by doing so refer to the history of the National Monument.
