Stamps: Public transport in the Netherlands

By 04-10-2019

Two stamp issues from PostNL pay attention to the most important means of public transport in our country: tram, metro, city bus, regional bus, stopping train, intercity, international train and ferry service.

Thijs Verbeek: “Every stamp sheet is a journey through the Netherlands with varying landscapes, seasons and weather conditions. From city to country, from suburb to city center, from summer to winter. The twelve routes connect all Dutch provinces.”

“The yellow train in the Dutch landscape is to me a real example of the Dutch design mentality. Unfortunately, these yellow trains are slowly exchanged for grey/blue models with a less distinctive character. In the stamp series various types of characteristic Dutch landscapes pass by.”

“I soon realized that the emphasis had to be on the landscape, the view and the ways in which they are all connected. In addition, I wanted the train to ride again in all kinds of weather, through rain and snow. This also makes the vehicles come to live; they are dirty and smeared with mud, snow and graffiti. ”
