Strak

By 20-03-2023

Strak is the dutch word for tight, and tightness is the only thing which holds the whole together. With this project Hidde Tuinte tried to build objects using tension as a construction method.

The result is a cabinet inspired by industrial packaging and the circular economy, consisting of standardized, accessible parts. Minimal modifications turn the materials into a cabinet that is easy to assemble and disassemble, fixed solely by lashing straps.

The lashing traps are also used for packaging, with the ambition to ship it without the use of cardboard boxes. Besides its functional properties, the lashing straps also provide a clear insight on the construction, proportion and aesthetic of the product.

Strak’s construction principle can be further developed into a modular and adaptable system, with a lot of flexibility.

‘Strak’ will be on show at Isola Design District
