Table Jewels

By 25-12-2020

The relationship between human beings and their surrounding products is shifting, as our environment is digitalising. Fenna van der Klei recognises we are demanding for more connection, warmth and personal contact in our living environments. More than ever, we select the physical objects we surround us with, carefully, appreciating emotional and decorative values.

For Fenna van der Klei, this phenomenon is opening up possibilities: it’s all about shaping immersive experiences. Through the creation of sensory products and installations the design studio aims to respond by charming and persuading the user. Along extensive material manipulation and reinterpreting existing production techniques the studio continues developing a material archive that always forms the base for a design, providing answers to this shift.

The Table Jewels-collection is a modern translation of the traditional craft of weaving: cotton yarn merges with coloured rubber. It’s open structure doesn’t conform to a fixed shape and invites to be touched. The heat resistant home-textiles are jewels on the dinner table that can be used as coasters and underpads.
