The Grand Courtyard

By 08-09-2021

ONE WEEK ABOUT Masterly – The Dutch in Milano by Nicole Uniquole, founder and curator of Masterly.

When I was looking for a location for Masterly – The Dutch in Milano a few years ago, I knew three things for sure: the building had to be almost next to the Duomo, it still had to have spectacular historical spaces and there had to be a Grand Courtyard. As everyone knows, we succeeded. And especially that Grand Courtyard has an important function as a meeting place, to drink coffee with guests, to have lunch, to give cocktails and of course to do business and initiate collaborations.

De Courtyard is surrounded by arcades on huge columns with precious capitals and  vaults in traditional Lombard Renaissance style. A great location for presentations of outdoor furniture such as CooLoo, Dwars (EigenGijs), Haave Outdoor Kitchens and the ‘orange tree’ of LYb. The lamps of studio Vouw literally welcome you. And situated between the historical culumns Jordan Artisan shows his Italian (neo) moves made from EPS, tile adhesive and mesh.

And how wonderful when it’s 30 degrees downtown… in a courtyard it’s actually always 5 degrees cooler. A pleasant side effect in this week!
