The Roaring Twenties

By 17-01-2022

“For the exhibition ‘The Roaring Twenties’, we looked for parallels between the 1920s and 2020s in the fields of art, design and fashion. Our studio curated the design part, Colin Huizing the art part and Liesbeth in’t Hout the fashion part.

Looking through the eyes of some 60 leading contemporary and historical artists, product designers and fashion designers, we see a world that is rapidly changing under the influence of technology, social engagement and changing attitudes towards gender.

We have designed a collection of five carpets inspired by textiles from the 1920s, on which dialogues take place between masters from the 1920s and contemporary designers. Themes that come up in the conversations are, for example; innovativeness, the power of nature, women’s emancipation and a new view on gender, social motives, radical form, etc.

It has become a layered, topical exhibition, in which we asked ourselves; What influence will the post-pandemic have on the artists and designers? What are they fighting for, and what will they be reminded of?”
