The Shapes of Water

By 05-06-2020

In 2018 Fendi celebrated its tenth participation to Design Miami. For the occasion, Fendi presented ‘The Shapes of Water’, a project by Sabine Marcelis dedicated to the rediscovery of one of the elements: water. Using water as a design tool, the designer magnified its delicate beauty by realizing ten fountains inspired by ten of the most iconic symbols of the historical Roman house.

Peekaboo Bag
Sabine Marcelis cast molds from the Peekaboo Bag to create a reproduction in resin.

Palazzo Della Civilta’Italiana
This fountain is dedicated to Fendi headquarters in Rome.

Fendi FF Logo n.1
The double F logo – which stands for ‘fun fur’ – was designed by Karl Lagerfeld in 1965.

Fendi FF Logo n.2
A second interpretation by the designer of the classic logo with the double F.

Tegole
A reference to one of Fendi’s most classical fur patterns, which also characterises the city of Rome.

Rome Sunset
For this fountain, Marcelis was inspired by the dramatic Rome sunsets.

Labirinto
Referring to another one of Fendi’s classical fur pattern, Sabine Marcelis created the pattern as a half void.

Selleria
Selleria is one of the most successful Fendi lines. Sabine Marcelis made the water travel through hollows referring to the specific sewing technique it uses.

Intarsi
A reference to the intarsi technique, which consists of a series of inlaid pieces of leather or fur to create a multifaceted pattern.

Astuccio
A reference to astuccio, one of the most famous Fendi patterns for furs from the 1970s.
