The Studio Sculptures

By 25-11-2017

In his exhibition ‘The Studio Sculptures’, Jaya Pelupessy continues his exploration into the field of reproduction. The gallery space is reproduced in a detailed model on a 1:5 scale. The images that were made for this series were photographed in the scale model and then enlarged and presented in the gallery itself, thus creating a loop for the visitors of the exhibition.

Jaya Pelupessy: “In my work I blur the boundaries between research and end-product, allowing both an equal footing. Moving between coexisting positions to gain new perspectives, I create visual illusions before undermining them in my role as a researcher. Central to my work are the processes that lead to autonomous images. Can examining the method itself – and making that process visible – reinforce, invalidate, or even give life to new autonomous images?”

Jaya Pelupessy studied Photography at the HKU. His photobook ‘SET-PUT-RUN’, published by Fw:Books was elected as one of the Best Photobooks 2016 by De Volkskrant.
