Studio Bureau is an all-round concept and design agency formed by graphic designers Thijs van Dalen and Frans van Ditzhuijzen. We believe that companies, institutions or brands should be as lively, human and multifaceted as the people they communicate with. Our clients are very diverse and come from a diverse spectrum of fields. Our natural curiosity helps us delve into these different fields and the target audience’s worlds of experience.
Graphic design is communication and, as far as we are concerned, can be in any form and expression needed to tell the message. So if the assignment calls for it, we develop not only traditional communication tools such as posters or websites but also objects that are part of the story.
An example of this is the ‘Waterdicht’ (Waterproof) project where we came up with the name, identity and routing of the exhibition. Waterdicht is an exhibition for contemporary art, ten artists created specific works that relate to the exhibition’s immediate surroundings, namely Fort Maarsseveen. The fort and the landscape around it are part of the New Dutch Waterline. We found the given ‘water’ an interesting one to design with. In abstract form for the identity and in a literal form where visitors could use watering cans (filled with the water from the moat around the fort) to read the information on the signs near the works of art because it appeared after spraying the signs.
As a design agency, we believe in the power of a good idea and always strive for the right balance between experimentation, communication and aesthetics.
