Werkplaats Typografie in Los Angeles
Werkplaats Typografie is a two-year graduate program in graphic design based in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The program with lectures, workshops, seminars, meetings and readings is centered on research projects and practical assignments geared towards the development of independently motivated work by the students.
Following an invitation from the Hoffmitz Milken Center for Typography at ArtCenter College of Design, the Werkplaats Typografie moved to Los Angeles, California for a 6 week residency. From February 21 to 26, 2017, the participants displayed the outcome of their work in LA: a collection of extracted butch signifiers, walk-in sculptures, additional footnotes, pre-fab bungalows, condensed sunshine, phonebooks, doppelgängers, sculptural glyphs, broadcasting, a trip of failures, a bass performance, and one particularly satisfying tarot reading.
