Ted Noten
Ted Noten has embedded the jewellery profession more firmly by re-introducing a predilection for beauty, ornamentation and theatricality in the avant-garde, but also by consciously seeking out inappropriate contexts, such as the Red Light District in Amsterdam.
Ted: “To me it is just as interesting to design something for a museum as it is to design something for a souvenir shop, for a fabulously rich collector or for a prostitute. For the display case, but also for the street.” Noten stretches the limits of his profession, and for now, it is impossible to predict where this attitude will lead him. He does not want to know either.
“I enjoy creating work that will set people on the wrong track. Your story can only get through to people if you rob them of their prejudices about jewellery. This applies to me as well. As soon as I master something I will be ready to start something fresh. In the end, this is what I am in it for!”
