Garden Galore + Fresh Ceramics

By 22-10-2015

ONE WEEK ABOUT Dutch Design Week Eindhoven

During Dutch Design Week, e52 will be introducing you to the hidden gems of the festival. Together with Dutch Design Daily, we’ve selected nine special designers whose sparkle has caught our eye this year. Each day of DDW there’ll be a different hidden gem put under the spotlight.

Today: Garden Galore + Fresh Ceramics (including the meet&greet at 16.00 today!)

We just couldn’t choose, so today there are two DDW hidden gems in the spotlight: Garden Galore and Fresh Ceramics by Jorine Oosterhoff and Egbert-Jan Lam / buroJET. Together they’re showcasing beautiful ceramic works from Arnhem.

Garden Galore
Lenneke Wispelwey showcases a wide collection of porcelain pots and accessories for indoor gardens through the Garden Galore exhibition. She got her inspiration from her travels in Cuba, where everything was growing and blooming. “Even in the places where you’d least expect it.”She also noticed that people are increasingly keen on keeping their plants in their homes, where they bloom for longer. She’s often seen her vases, cups and bowls being used to hold plants. It was high time she created a line for green-fingered design-lovers to care for their plants. From succulent plants to lilies.

Fresh Ceramics by Jorine Oosterhoff and Egbert-Jan Lam
Jorine Oosterhoff and Egbert-Jan Lam often work together. They’re “partners in life and design”. She’s the storyteller, he’s the engineer. Oosterhoff is showing her Bubble collection at this year’s DDW, a series of ceramic objects, such as vases and candle holders. Parts of the collection look like they’ve been pulled straight out of soap suds, with bubbles sticking onto the vases like they’re frozen in time. The objects are finished in royal blue and with what looks like a layer of velvet thanks to the special matte-effect glaze. The series was made in collaboration with Cor Unum. Egbert-Jan Lam from buroJET is launching three new collections this DDW. All eight vases were inspired by industrial machine parts. “I want to be able to turn each of my designs on its head, just like with machine parts. If they’re then still aesthetically pleasing, it’s good.”
