The Big Bubble & Aurum

By 25-02-2015

Alex White is an industrial designer from Goes. His work is based on universal aesthetic values and unexpected events taking place during the design process.

The Big Bubble is a lighting object of mouth-blown glass, conceived during the process of blowing bubbles. The tension in a soap bubble right before it bursts combined with surprising light reflections, the wonder of the moment frozen in a huge bell. Each bell is different and partly shaped by the environment in which it is hung. In ‘The Coloured Edition’, blowing bubbles is elevated to the level of a veritable feast.

Aurum is a lighting object that does not immediately reveal what kind of material it is made of. By silver-plating colored glass and playing with the concept of distortion, the designer has lent the object a special attraction. There is also a white, transparent version that lights up entirely when one turns the lamp on.
