Caruzzo armchair

By 27-08-2015

Dutch designer Frans Schrofer has won the coveted Red Dot Product Design Award with his Caruzzo armchair design. The first Red Dot marks the peak in Schrofer’s 20-year collaboration with manufacturer Leolux.

In 1983, Frans Schrofer graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven, setting up his own design studio several years later. His furniture designs are compact and modest, yet also well thought-out and well-constructed, which has brought him an international clientele.

With Caruzzo, Frans Schrofer has created an armchair with great attention to design and ergonomics. Leolux added the functional mechanism that allows one to determine the degree of sitting actively or passively. Also distinctive is the handmade decorative seam at the back of the chair.

The Red Dot Product Design Award is an international prize that is awarded annually since 1955 by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany.
