De Monsterkamer

By 04-06-2015

De Monsterkamer (The Sample Chamber) is a publicly accessible repository of the current range of graphic paper in the Netherlands. The main purpose is to offer designers a physical database with materials, techniques and applications. In addition, De Monsterkamer undertakes activities to encourage knowledge sharing and collaborations.

Every first Thursday of the month, the Monsterkamer organizes a Walk-in + special guest. Graphic designer Esther de Vries (1974) has been invited for June 4. Esther specializes in book design. She shares her studio with Richard Niessen. As individual designers they complement each other very well and they collaborate as a team on a number of projects.

In her presentation, Esther will focus on the ways in which she translates text and image into physical print on the basis of a number of books she designed and the series 1: 1: 1. Niessen & de Vries initiated 1: 1: 1, a documentary series in print about the work of artists and designers. The series investigates graphic design and printing as a means of expression.
